Second Chance Emporium Funds New Laboratory Refrigerator for St. Mark's Medical Center

Release date: December 16, 2022

La Grange, TX - The Second Chance Emporium has awarded St. Mark's Medical Center (St. Mark's) $8370 to purchase a new high-technology laboratory refrigerator.

The laboratory refrigerator is a medical-grade model that supports the unique needs of a medical laboratory, including providing optimal conditions for storing needed samples, substances and other medical materials. An advanced touchscreen provides continuous temperature monitoring, event logs, and downloadable temperature graphs, which are needed for laboratory as well as hospital surveys. Tight temperature uniformity and reliable performance ensure that products are safely stored. The new technology also offers energy savings, quiet operation, and low heat output, in addition to excellent temperature stability and recovery after door openings.

"We can't thank the wonderful team enough at Second Chance Emporium for their ongoing support and recognition of our hospital's needs," said St. Mark's President and CEO Mark Kimball. "Gifts such as this help our not-for-profit, community hospital continue to offer exceptional and safe care to our patients."

"This new refrigerator is a terrific upgrade for our laboratory and eases the efforts and oversight by our team," said St. Mark's Chief Clinical Officer Tammy Hartfield, RN, MSN. "It replaces an older unit that was previously used at the former Fayette Memorial Hospital. Safe and efficient refrigeration in our laboratory is critical to the overall quality protocols at St. Mark's, and we thank the Second Chance Emporium for their support."

The Second Chance Emporium resale store is operated by a coalition of seven local churches representing various denominations, and is predominantly staffed by unpaid volunteers from the community. Donations of gently used household goods, clothing and furniture are sold at low prices to benefit buyers as well as local charities that apply to the store's board of directors for funding. The shop is located at 841 S. Reynolds St., in La Grange; donations are accepted Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM, and Saturday, 9 AM - 2:30 PM. Shoppers are welcome Friday - Saturday, 9 AM - 3 PM.
