Christina Berger, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, Joins St. Mark's Medical Center Orthopedic Clinic
Release date: September 12, 2022
La Grange, TX - Christina "Christy" Berger, board certified family nurse practitioner, begins in St. Mark's Medical Center's (SMMC's) Orthopedic Clinic on Sept. 12, and will see patients of all ages.
A native of Kyle, TX, Berger graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S.N. from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and with high honors, an M.S.N. with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialty from the University of Texas Arlington. She previously worked as a Med/Surg nurse at SMMC, as well as roles at long term acute care facilities.
"We are thrilled to have Christy join the practice," said Dr. Jonathan Blake, board certified orthopedic surgeon at St. Mark's Medical Center. "She brings a wealth of experience, including geriatric and chronic disease care, which can make orthopedic patient care more complicated."
Berger grew up playing football and basketball with her twin sister and six brothers, and developed a love for sports, even though it sometimes resulted in bumps and bruises.
"I had more than my share of sports injuries," said Berger. "I think it's what drove my initial interest in sports medicine. I started in nursing because it exposed me to all facets of medicine, and I'm blessed to be back at SMMC in my new role."
Working in the SMMC Orthopedic Clinic also helps further Berger's interest in closing the healthcare gap in rural areas. "We are fortunate to have surgical services and follow-up therapy care right here at SMMC. And there is something very special about working within your community and caring for your friends and neighbors," she continued. "It makes it much more meaningful."
Berger firsthand understands the value of local care as she experienced an outpouring of support while being treated for breast cancer. "Seeing the community come together for me and my family is unforgettable. I want to give back in the same way to my patients, while helping them overcome their joint pain and improve their quality of life."
"All of us at SMMC are pleased to have Christy return to our team," said SMMC President and CEO, Mark Kimball. "Her broad professional experience and passion for rural health care bring expertise to our organization that helps us locally deliver the high level of care that we strive to offer," Kimball added.
Berger's husband was raised in nearby Schulenburg and they returned to the area in 2014 to raise their three children on a farm outside La Grange. In her free time, Berger enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, cooking and gardening.
